When in Austin, you obviously have to get barbecue at least once during a short trip. Got a recommendation from a local to try Cooper's in Downtown Austin.
Walked in and jumped in line, not really knowing what we were doing.
We asked the guy cutting up the meats what he recommended for two people, and he said to go for a half pound of each. Luckily we toned that down to a quarter pound of each. Got the brisket, beef ribs, jalapeno and cheese sausage, and prime rib. They slice it up and wrap it in to-go paper for you.
They also have sides and desserts ready to be packed up for you. Got both types of mac and cheese, and coleslaw. I usually go nuts at places like these, so I held myself back on ordering the desserts, but they looked amazing.
You get your order to go, but they have plenty of seating indoors and outdoors.
My favorite was the beef ribs, but the brisket was a close second. I could feel my heart stopping after eating this meal. I wish I had gotten dessert.
Cooper's Old Time Pit Barbecue in Downtown Austin. Amazing food and definitely a good alternative to some of the other popular places with obscenely long wait times.
