Got up early to go into the city today to get some pictures with my wide angle lens. The weather was predicted to be around 60 degrees and sunny, and after the previous weekend being ridiculously cold, I welcomed the warm weather. I had already bought my ticket for the Hoboken Volunteers Chili Cook-Off, so I wanted to be back by the afternoon.
I got into the city, and grabbed coffee from 11th Street Cafe while cleaning up my lens. And yes, they offer 5 miles per dollar with MileagePlus Dining. I am obsessed.
I wasn't blown away by this place, so I ended up looking for another place to grab breakfast. The Bus Stop Cafe around the corner (5 miles per dollar, yes the first step is admitting you have a problem) was a nice little diner and exactly what I was in the mood for. Perfect for breakfast as the morning light filled the place through their large windows.
The more I looked at the sunny warm weather outside, the more I felt the need to go back home and take the bike out. With 60 degree weather in February, how can you pass up a day like this? You can't, so I put the camera away, walked back to the PATH, and bailed on taking pictures in the city for the day.
By 10:30, I was apologizing to my friend who was going to be in the city taking pictures, and I was flying up river road to the park by the George Washington Bridge. It felt great to gear up and go riding.
Brought my camera and Kindle with me, rode around for a few hours, and took a break to read in the park. It was lonely, but I didn't feel too bad. Nice break from life.
I made it back to the chili cook-off.
Tried pretty much all of the chili to fill myself up, voted for my friends' chili which was 80% bacon and cholesterol, drank some free beer samples, and left with some free ice cream. It looks like it will be in the 50's again tomorrow, so I'll throw the camera in the backpack again and figure out a place to go while I'm on the road.
